Enzo Traverso is one of the most internationally renowned historians of 20th century ideas. Professor at Cornell University in Ithaca (New York), his works on totalitarianism, Auschwitz, the world wars, anti-Semitism and the new faces of the right have been translated into many languages. The Valencian publishing house Afers has published, in a short space of time, two of his latest books, "El 'jo' en l'escriptura de la hitòria" (2021) and "Dialèctica de l'irracionalisme" (2022), both carefully translated into Catalan by Gustau Muñoz, who is also director of the collection "Biblioteca de pensament crític" in which the latter has appeared. In the first, Traverso questions the subjectivist turn of those historians who are no longer satisfied only with the reconstruction and interpretation of the past, but who also need to explain their own history; in the second, which is the subject of the following conversation, he brilliantly and rigorously historicises one of the great misunderstood books of 20th century critical thought: Lukács' "The Destruction of Reason".
