Sobre l'art de prudència i l'art de l'ocasió (notes sobre el barroc i Gracián)
    (2008) Cantarino Suñer, Elena
The article proposes an analysis about the Prudence and the Occasion in the Baltasar Gracián's first works. The Prudence, as knowledge and practical wisdom, is the exercise of the natural reason, not in abstract, but in his concrete and practical application to the experience of the reality. The Occasion is possess the fleeting way since the things happen and appear in the world. Gracián takes elements of the Baroque Thought in order to make them as one's own and to offer an art of Prudence and an art of the Occasion in order that they operate so much the public man (reason of State) as the private man (reason of state of the individual).

Context social i acadèmic de la lògica en el segle XX als Països Catalans
    (2008) Serra, Xavier
This article studies the reception of the modern logic in the Catalonian cultural area taking into account, essentially, the academic and extra-academic social, cultural and political factors which have conditioned this reception. It contains the detailed exposition of a change in the paradigm of logic in a specific cultural European area (Catalonia). This work can also contribute to clear up what the social academic conditions have been and what historical circumstances have determined the difficult development of the Catalan philosophy in the 20th century.

Cinismo y sociedad de la información
    (2008) Gozálvez Pérez, Vicent
Our technologically advanced and global societies arise from liberal and individualistic ideology. Have they likewise become cynical societies? P. Sloterdijk's Critique of Cynical Reason (1983) analyzes the cynical component in our time. In this paper, the concept of civic individualism opposed to cynical individualism is developed.

Ética de las capacidades e interpretación de los principios de justicia
    (2008) Biondo, Francesco
Capability approach can be considered a liberal and concrete outlook to questions of distributive justice. In this paper, I try to offer a short critical assessment of Sen's approach, starting with his criticisms against utilitarianism and Rawlsian justice as fairness. Sen succeeds in offering us a concrete outlook to discrimination; yet, he does not clarify how to spot adaptive preferences and how liberal governments should cope with cases of persistent inequalities. In this respect Sen's theory is still incomplete. This incompleteness proves that the content of a political doctrine depends on the interpretation of its principles of distributive justice when difficult cases come to the fore.

La crisis de la humanidad europea en pleno apogeo tras Husserl
    (2008) Wrehde, Klaus
The author considers the way in which he as a representative of the Goethe-institute experienced and was constrained by the cultural and educational politics of the Federal Republic of Germany. The internal and external circumstances did not permit a rational discussion of the disaster that was National Socialism. Whilst all that would have been required was to remember the deliberations of Edmund Husserl in his lecture 'Philosophy and the crisis of European humanity,' 1935.

Creença i realitat en William James
    (2008) Defez i Martín, Antoni
This paper is devoted to analyse both the epistemology and ontology of James's pragmatism and his metaphysical proposals. The conclusions are: first, that James did not defend a metaphysical realism, but a antirealist realism; and secondly that this position was what he needed to defend the possibility of human freedom and religious experience.

Antropologia filosòfica i literatura: la lectura nietzscheaba d'Apunts del subsòl de F. Dostoievski
    (2008) Llinares Chover, Joan B.
In winter 1886-87 Nietzsche discovered Dostoievski's work thanks to a strange French book entitled L'esprit souterrain. The philosopher's reading of the 'seconde partie' of this volume is documented in this essay and his main discoveries are set out in it as well, that is: the 'underground's' symbol and the features of an 'underground existence': loneliness, self-knowledge, sharp and evil conscience, passivity, pleasure on desperation (the psychology of masochism), the ressentiment, anti-utopian pessimism and a conception of friendship and love as a fight between the strong and the weak ones and also as will to control and to tyrannize others. A decisive question remains open: what does the 'real alive life' mean?

    Copérnico y el humanismo renacentista
    (2008) Mínguez Pérez, Carlos
This article analyzes the Copernicus' position in the Renaissanse Humanism. Copernico belongs in time (1473-1543) and literary activities to the second Humanism. His printed work within the Humanae litterae is merely symbolic. But his scientific work reflects the so called 'dream of humanism', and that is to conquer a new civilization by the means of languages and classic cultures recovering. Far from the controversy against the contemporary science (scholasticism), Copernicus' references and criticisms to the greek and latin authors act as a support for the new model of Universe.

Lógicas epistémicas y sistemas multiagentes: los agentes nacen y mueren
    (2008) Ubeda Rives, José Pedro
In this paper we study the propositional epistemic logics with operators to analize the knowledge of a group, and its applications to the multi-agent systems when the number of agents can vary between different worlds or states.
