- El canvi lingüístic i els conflictes de naturalitat : les desinències del present de subjuntiu(1996) Pérez Saldanya, ManuelI trace here the evolution of present subjunctive markers in Catalan and, in general, in those Romance languages where the fall of final unstressed vowels allows exemplification of the tendencies toward morphological optimization, as well as some of the naturalness conflicts produced among the different tendencies. The morphological tendencies which appear most active when it comes to a developmental explanation are, in this order, iconicity, transparency, and universality. I also analyze the etymology of the different markers and the three different types of innovations; specifically: (i) the morphologization of vocalic segments which originally had merely a phonological value; (ii) analogical generalization in the first conjugation of the affix characteristic of. the second and third conjugations; and (iii) the reanalysis of segments belonging to the end of the root or to the root extension of some verbs of conjugations other than the first.

- Cognició, temporalitat i lingüístcia comparada : el pretèrit perfect perifràstic i la metàfora del temps en català(1996) Martos Sánchez, Josep LluísMetaphor is a means of conceptualizing the world around us and an anthropological universal of expression wich helps us apprehend time in terms of space. The purpose of this paper is thus to analyse a series of time metaphors in Catalan, and more particularly the vado + infinitive construction, by showing the relationship between the conceptualizing system of Catalan and that Of other languages, such as English, German, Italian, Portuguese, French, and, especially, Occitan and Spanish.
- L'evolució de les e i o + iod en català dins la romània(1996) Batlle, M. del MarThis work is a discussed exposition, with references to Romance languages nearer to Catalan, of two hypotesis which have tried to explain peculiar evolution e > [í] and o > [ú] because of the iod in Catalan. The most accepted explanation says the iod was the cause of diphthongation of both vowels (the same as in Occitan) and after this they monophthongized in [í] and [ú] respectivelly, But I try to notice you, by following the line that Badia Margarit in his Gramàtica suggested, also it could be accepted an explanation based on direct inflection of open vowels (the same as in Castilian and Portuguese).
