- Oral lesions in patients with primary Sjögren?s syndrome. An observational cross-sectional study was conducted. 61 pSS patients (60 women, 1 man, mean age 57.64±13.52) diagnosed according to the American European Criteria (2002), and 122 matched control patients (120 women, 2 men, mean age 60.02±13.13) were included. Demographic and medical data, oral lesions and salivary flow rate were collected. Compared with the controls, pSS patients were 3.95 more likely to have oral lesions (OR 3.95; 95% CI 2.06-7.58; p=0.0001). 57.4% pSS patients presented oral lesions compared to 25.4% in CG. The most common were candidiasis (13.1% vs 2.5%), traumatic lesions (13.1% vs 4.1%), apthae (8.2% vs 0), and fissuration of the tongue (8.2% vs 0.8%). pSS patients with oral lesions had lower salivary flow levels (stimulated and unstimulated), although these differences were not significant. Significant associations were found between the presence of oral lesions and systemic manifestations and history of parotid gland enlargement in pSS patients. pSS patients suffer more oral lesions than general population and these lesions may aggravate the pSS disease.

The ability of head and neck radiotherapy (HNRT) to cause direct radiogenic destruction to the teeth is one of the most controversial topics in the field of oral oncology. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to investigate ionising radiation as an independent factor for physical and chemical changes on the dentine-enamel junction (DEJ), a pivotal dental topography for the onset and progression of radiation-related caries (RRC) and enamel delamination. Systematic searches were conducted on three databases: Scopus, MEDLINE (Via PubMed) and Embase (Elsevier). Laboratory studies evaluating the effects of simulated or in vivo HNRT on the DEJ were included. The GRADE tool adapted for in vitro studies was used to assess the methodological quality. Of the 154 initially selected studies, eight met the inclusion criteria, from which five studies were graded as high quality of evidence, two studies were graded as moderate quality and one as low quality. Two studies did not demonstrate DEJ alterations following HNRT while the other six articles described several organic and inorganic changes in the DEJ of irradiated teeth samples. These radiogenic events were mostly detected through micro and nanoindentation, Raman micro-spectroscopy, confocal microscopy, Western blotting and optical coherence tomography. HNRT may have a negative impact on the physical and chemical aspects of the DEJ, predisposing cancer patients to RRC and enamel delamination.
- Hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers in patients with periodontitis : a systematic review and meta-analysis(2020) Wu, Yougen; Shi, Xiaojun; Li, Yinghua; Xia, Ju; Gu, Yuting; Qian, Qingqing; Hong, YangNumerous studies have explored the correlation of periodontal disease (PD) with risk of hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers, but the findings were inconsistent. Therefore, we did a meta-analysis to ascertain the correlation of PD with risk of incident hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers. The authors searched relevant studies in databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and MEDLINE). The summary relative risk (RR) along with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated by use of random or fixed effects models. Six studies were included in qualitative synthesis. The pooled analysis revealed that PD was significantly associated with an increased risk of hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers (RR = 1.17; 95% CI = 1.07?1.27; P = 0). Stratified analysis showed the association of PD with hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers remained significant in the never smokers (RR = 1.28; 95% CI = 1.07?1.54; P = 0.007), and in the American population (RR = 1.17; 95% CI = 1.05?1.30; P = 0.003), respectively. Never smokers population and the American population with PD have a higher risk of developing hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers. PD might be considered as a risk factor for hematopoietic and lymphatic cancers.
- CD1a+ and CD207+ cells are reduced in oral submucous fibrosis and oral squamous cell carcinoma(2020) da Silva, Luan César; Fonseca, Felipe Paiva; Almeida, Oslei Paes de; Mariz, Bruno A.L.A.; Lopes, Márcio Ajudarte; Radhakrishnan, Raghu A.; Sharma, Mohit; Kowalski, Luiz Paulo; Vargas, Pablo AgustínThe objective of this study investigated the distribution of immature dendritic cells (DCs), Langerhans cells and plasmacytoid DCs in oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF), OSMF associated with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSMF-OSCC), oral leukoplakia (OL), and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Fourteen cases of OSMF, 9 of OSMF-OSCC, 8 of OL¸ 45 of OSCC and 8 of normal epithelium were retrospectively retrieved and their diagnoses confirmed. Immunoreactions against CD1a, CD207 e CD303 were performed and the number of positive cells quantified. A significant decrease of CD1a+ was found in OSMF (p?0.05), OSMF-OSCC (p ? 0.01), and OSCC (p ? 0.001) when compared to normal epithelium. For CD207+ the significance decrease was observed in OSMF-OSCC (p ? 0.05), and OSCC (p ? 0.01) when compared with normal epithelium, and in OSMF when compared with OL (p ? 0.05). There was no significant difference for CD303, but increased in CD303+ was observed in OSCC when compared with normal epithelium. The decrease in the number of CD1a+ and CD207+ cells may be associate to the development of oral OSCC, and in OPMDs they might be indicators of malignant transformation.
- Comparison of GTR, T-PRF and open-flap debridement in the treatment of intrabony defects with endo-perio lesions : a randomized controlled trial(2020) Ustaoglu, Gulbahar; U?ur Ayd?n, Zeliha; Özelçi, FerhatTitanium- prepared platelet rich fibrin (T-PRF) is an autologous hemo-component with a high concentration of platelets that also incorporates leukocytes, and growth factors into the dense fibrin matrix and can be used as a healing biomaterial. This study assesses the adjunctive use of T-PRF in intrabony defects (IBDs) with open flap debridement (OFD) in comparison with guided tissue regeneration (GTR) as a gold standard and OFD alone as a control. A total of 45 patients (15 per group) were randomized as either T-PRF (test group), GTR (test group), or OFD alone (control group) sites. Probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and IBD were recorded. The radiographic depth of IBD was also measured. Primary outcomes assessed were changes in PD, CAL, and radiographic IBD that were assessed at the beginning and nine months later. The PRF and GTR group showed significant improvement in clinical parameters compared with the OFD alone (control group) at nine months. While there were no significant differences in PD and CAL between test groups (T-PRF and GTR groups), the significant difference was found in radiographic IBD depth. T-PRF may give similar successful results as GTR in the treatment of IBDs with endo-perio lesions.
- Association between maxillary sinus pathology and odontogenic lesions in patients evaluated by cone beam computed tomography. A systematic review and meta-analysis(2020) Peñarrocha Oltra, Sonia; Soto-Peñaloza, David; Bagán Debón, Leticia; Bagán Sebastián, José Vicente; Peñarrocha Oltra, DavidA study is made of the association between maxillary sinus pathology and odontogenic lesions in patients evaluated with cone beam computed tomography. A literature search was made in five databases and OpenGrey. Methodological assessment was carried out using the Newcastle-Ottawa tool for observational studies. The random-effects model was used for the meta-analysis. Twenty-one studies were included in the qualitative review and 6 in the meta-analysis. Most presented moderate or low risk of bias. The periodontal disease showed to be associated with the thickening of the sinus membrane (TSM). Mucous retention cysts and opacities were reported in few studies. The presence of periapical lesions (PALs) was significantly associated to TSM (OR=2.43 (95%CI:1.71-3.46); I2=34.5%) and to odontogenic maxillary sinusitis (OMS) (OR=1.77 (95%CI: 1.20-2.61); I2=35.5%). The presence of PALs increases the probability of TSM and OMS up to 2.4-fold and 1.7-fold respectively. The risk differences suggests that about 58 and 37 of out every 100 maxillary sinuses having antral teeth with PALs are associated with an increased risk TSM and OMS respectively. The meta-evidence obtained in this study was of moderate certainty, and although the magnitude of the observed associations may vary, their direction in favor sinus disorders appearance, would not change as a result.
- Is measurement of the gingival biotype reliable? Agreement among different assessment methods(2020) Aguilar-Duran, Laura; Mir Mari, Javier; Figueiredo, Rui; Valmaseda Castellón, E.To determine agreement among the most commonly used methods for assessing the gingival biotype. An electronic survey was sent to a sample of dentists practicing in Spain. The questionnaire was based on the evaluation of 5 cases involving different gingival biotype assessment methods. Dentists were required to classify the cases as having a ?thin?, ?thick? or ?not able to classify? biotype. Each case was assessed using a frontal intraoral photo of the anterior teeth; an enlarged photo of the buccal aspect of the tooth with a periodontal probe inserted inside the sulcus; and the real thickness measured in mm with a calibrated needle. Agreement among the classifications was assessed using Cohen?s kappa coefficient. A total of 104 surveys were analyzed. The most commonly used assessment method was visual evaluation of the morphology of the gingiva and the teeth (62.5%). Concordance among the three different methods was weak (kappa = 0.278). Agreement among the classification methods was greater in extreme cases (thinner and thicker gingival thickness). The most commonly used methods for assessing gingival biotype are not reliable. The three tested methods show poor to weak agreement, which leads to non-reliable estimation of the gingival biotype.
- Awareness on oral cancer among patients attending dental school clinics in Brazil(2020) do Prado, Nathália Sousa; Bonan, Roberta Ferreti; Leonel, Augusto-César-Leal-da Silva; Castro, Jurema Freire Lisboa de; Carvalho, Elaine Judite de Amorim; Silveira, Fabiana Moura da Motta; Perez, Danyel Elias da CruzOral cancer is considered a public health problem worldwide. Dental schools may play an important role in educating patients about oral cancer. This study aimed at evaluating the knowledge of patients attending clinics at two dental schools in Brazil. From March 2017 to April 2017, 251 patients who were attending clinics at two dental schools in Recife, Brazil, were included in the study. Patients were contacted in the waiting rooms of the clinic. Each participant completed a self-administered questionnaire, which consists of 21 questions, including socio-demographic and specific information on the disease. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and a chi-square test (with a 5% significance level) was used to assess the correlation between the variables, education and family income and other variables. Most participants were women (64.9%) with a mean age of 42.72 years. Most participants were knowledgeable about oral cancer and identified tobacco use (48.6%), alcohol consumption (25.1%), and solar radiation (12%) as the primary risk factors for the disease. Only 36.7% of the participants reported having received counselling on oral cancer, of which 18.3% received the information from a dentist. All patients with an income higher than six minimum wages were aware about oral cancer (p = 0.001). These findings emphasize the importance of educational programs in dental schools as well providing integrated services for patients seeking care at school clinics, including population?s awareness on oral cancer.
- The recurrence of odontogenic keratocysts in pediatric patients is associated with clinical findings of Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome(2020) Silva, Leorik-Pereira da; Rolim, Larissa Santos Amaral; da Silva, Luiz Artur Barbosa; Pereira-Pinto, Leão; Souza, Lélia Batista deOdontogenic keratocyst (OKC) is an odontogenic developmental cyst that presents distinct clinical behavior. This lesion has been described as dental cysts with keratinization since the 1930s, however the term "OKC" was established in 1956. This study aims to determine the frequency and features of OKC in children aged 0 to 14 years in an oral pathology service in Brazil. A retrospective study was performed to review cases of OKC in children diagnosed between 1986 and 2017. Clinical data were evaluated from medical records (gender, race, age, anatomical location, treatment, radiographic findings and follow-up). Ninety-seven cases of OKC were diagnosed in a 31-year-period in all age groups and 10 were found in children (10.3%). Age ranged from 2 to 14 years (mean age=10.5±3.5), with 8 males and 2 females. The most frequent location was the anterior region of the mandible (n=4). Patients were predominantly asymptomatic. Moreover, in two children, clinical findings of Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome were observed. The most commonly used treatment was enucleation followed by curettage. In all cases of Gorlin-Goltz Syndrome were observed recurrences and occurrence of new keratocysts. Although uncommon in pediatric patients, OKC should be considered a differential diagnosis in cases of osteolytic lesions in gnathic bones. Thus, the periodic assessment of children by dentists and pediatricians is essential to get a correct diagnosis and early treatment to avoid greater mutilation of these patients.
- Review and update on drugs related to the development of osteonecrosis of the jaw(2020) Eguía Del Valle, Asier; Bagán Debón, Leticia; Cardona Tortajada, FranciscoMedication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a rare, but serious adverse effect of certain drugs, of which bisphosphonates are the most widely known. This pathology is also associated with other medications such as the biologic antiresorptive agent, denosumab and some antiangiogenics such as sunitinib, bevacizumab or aflibercept. Very recently, new medications have also been associated with osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). The objectives were to update the list of medications associated with ONJ, to analyze the fundamental aspects of this list and to describe the level of evidence available. A narrative bibliographic review was made, using the PubMed-MedLine, DOAJ and SCIELO databases. Additional information was obtained through the online Medication Information Centre of the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS ? CIMA), the websites of the US Food & Drugs Administration (Drugs@FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The latest drugs identified as potential facilitators of this pathology include a number of anti-VEGF based antiangiogenic drugs and anti-TKI and different types of immunomodulators. Neither the level of evidence in this association nor the risk are equal for all these drugs. On the other hand, over the coming years, new drugs will be marketed with similar action mechanisms to those that are recognized as having this adverse effect. No effective therapy is currently known for the treatment of ONJ. Therefore, in order to prevent new cases of MRONJ, it is essential for all oral healthcare professionals to be fully up-to-date with the etiopathogenic aspects of this pathology and to be aware of those drugs considered to be a risk.

We assessed colloid solution-derived silver nanoparticles coating of polylactic acid membrane regarding tissue foreign body response. Thirty eight polylactic acid membranes were implanted intracranially in rabbits ? ten unmodified (control group) and twenty eight with silver nanoparticles coating (experimental group). In controls, penicillin was used for infection prophylaxis. Tissue response was assessed by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry (CD3, CD15, CD30) 2 weeks after implantation. inflammation markers in experimental group were significantly lower than in control group, there were no signs of forming a fibrosis capsule nor infectious signs. colloid silver solution can be used as a source of nanoparticles for anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory biodegradable membranes? coating.
- Oral potentially malignant disorders : clinical-pathological study of 684 cases diagnosed in a Brazilian population(2020) Pires, Fábio-Ramôa; Barreto, Maria Eduarda Zeraik; Nunes, Jéssica Gomes Rodrigues; Carneiro, Natália Santos; de Azevedo, Alexandro Barbosa; dos-Santos, Teresa-Cristina-Ribeiro-BartholomeuThe frequency and distribution of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD) may vary among different populations. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinical-pathological characteristics of OPMD diagnosed in a Brazilian oral pathology laboratory over a period of 11 years. All cases diagnosed as leukoplakia, speckled leukoplakia, erythroplakia, and actinic cheilitis from 2005 to 2015 were analyzed. Clinical information was obtained from laboratory forms and histological information was obtained from histological slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin. the final sample was comprised of 684 cases, of which 292 were males and 392 were females. The mean age was 58 years. The anatomical site most often involved was the lateral border of the tongue (23%), followed by the lower lip (20%), and by the buccal mucosa/vestibule (18%). Leukoplakia accounted for 82% of the sample (564 cases). The mean size of the leukoplakia and speckled leukoplakia lesions was 13 mm (ranging from 1 to 100 mm) and 15 mm (ranging from 5 to 30 mm), respectively (p=0.460). Males reported smoking and drinking alcohol more frequently than females (p=0.001 and p <0.0001, respectively). In half of the cases, dysplasia was not histologically detected, while slight dysplasia was detected in 28% of the cases. The lesions from patients aged from 41 to 80 years presented moderate and severe dysplasia more often than lesions from patients in other age groups. OPMD were more common in females in their sixties. Females were more frequently affected in all anatomical sites, except for the lips. Leukoplakia lesions were the most common OPMD, followed by actinic cheilitis. The lateral border of the tongue was the most affected anatomical site. OPMD located in the floor of the mouth/sublingual mucosa and lesions from older patients presented severe epithelial dysplasia with greater frequency.
- Assesment of accessory branches of canalis sinuosus on CBCT images(2020) Tomrukçu, Dilara Nil; Köse, Taha EmreThe aim of this study is to describe the presence, to reveal the frequency and characteristics of accessory canals (ACs) of the canalis sinuosus (CS) by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). A total of 326 CBCT examinations were scanned retrospectively. The anatomical views were evaluated on sagittal, axial, coronal and cross sectional imaging. The following parameters were recorded: age, sex, presence or absence of ACs, location in relation to the adjacent teeth and distance to the nasal cavity floor (NCF), alveolar ridge crest (ARC) and buccal cortical bone (BCB), and incisive canal. All the collected data were statistically analyzed. 113 patients (34,7%); presented ACs in total 214 foramina of the sample. There were no statistically significant changes in the presence of ACs regarding age groups excluding 80-89 years. But there is a statistically significant difference regarding the frequency of ACs and the gender. The prevalence for male patients was higher than female patients. Curved-shape configuration of CS prevalence is found as 69,15%. The prevalence of vertical tracing is 26,16% and Y-shape configuration of CS prevalence is 4,67%. Diameter of the foramens of the CS branches was 1.30 mm. The mean distance of the AC to the NCF, BCB, and ARC were found 13,83 mm, 6,60 mm and 5,32 mm, respectively. In the anterior palatal region, ACs are mostly related to CS?s branches. So; knowing the course of CS branches in surgical planning and radiographic evaluations in this region is extremely important for preventing complications and avoiding misdiagnosis.
- Can immunohistochemical biomarkers distinguish epithelial dysplasia degrees in actinic cheilitis? A systematic review and meta-analysis(2020) Santana, Thalita; Matuck, Bruno; Tenorio, Jefferson-da-Rocha; Braga, Mariana MinatelActinic cheilitis (AC) is a poten-tially malignant disorder of the lip, characterized by epithelial and connective tissue alterations caused by chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation. In the past decades, diverse studies have been conducted in lip carcinogenesis and many biomarkers have been identified in lip lesions, yet there is no scientific evidence that determines its usefulness in the clinical setting or in histopatho-logical routine. Therefore, we conducted the first systematic review in this field to summarize the results of published studies on immunohistochemical bi-omarkers in lip carcinogenesis, to evaluate if there is a marker than can distin-guish the different histological grades of AC. Retrospective stud-ies that investigated immunohistochemical biomarkers in AC defined on standardised histological assessment were gathered from five databases and evaluated. Each study was qualitatively evaluated using the Critical Appraisal Tools from SUMARI. The proliferation marker Ki-67 was the most studied biomarker and we observed, through meta-analysis, that it was differently expressed between AC and lip cancer, but not in AC sub-groups. Most articles had a high risk of bias. In summary, the literature lacks quality follow up studies in actinic cheilitis. Multi-centre cohort studies, with patients stratified by treatment type and the use of image analysis soft-ware, could be the solution to further address the issues of investigating poten-tially malignant lesions and help change clinical practice, in terms of individu-alizing patients? treatment and prognosis prediction.
- Clinicopathological and ultrastructural characterization of periapical actinomycosis(2020) Silva, Wagner-Gomes; Pereira, Débora-Lima; Fregnani, Eduardo Rodrigues; Almeida, Oslei Paes de; Armada, Luciana; Pires, Fábio-RamôaThe aim of the present study was to analyze the clinicopathological and the ultrastructural features of periapical actinomycosis (PA) cases. Data from the files of an oral pathology laboratory were retrieved and the findings of histopathological analysis were evaluated. Hematoxylin?eosin (HE), a modified Brown & Brenn, and Grocott stains as well as ultrastructural analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were utilized. Six cases were obtained, 4 females and 2 males, with a mean age of 34 year-old. Two cases were symptomatic, lower teeth and the anterior region were more commonly affected, and all cases were characterized by periapical radiolucencies. All cases presented sulfur granules with a ray-fungus or club-shaped pattern of the Splendore-Hoeppli phenomenon in HE-stained sections, with filamentous gram-positive bacteria aggregates highlighted by the modified Brown & Brenn stain. SEM analysis revealed abundant packed rod-like and filamentous bacteria associated with an extracellular amorphous material. EDX analysis showed predominant picks of calcium and sulfur in actinomycotic colonies. Our findings suggest that PA manifests either clinically and radiologically as a non-specific and heterogeneous condition and that the actinomycotic colonies consist in a calcium- and sulfur-rich matrix. Furthermore, the results highlight the importance of submitting periapical specimens after surgical removal to histopathological analysis.
- Alcohol-based mouthwash as a risk factor of oral cancer : a systematic review(2020) Ustrell-Borràs, Marina; Traboulsi-Garet, Bassel; Gay-Escoda, CosmeOral and pharynx cancer represent a serious global problem, reaching an incidence of half a million cases annually. The role of tobacco and alcohol have been studied and proven to be one of its risk factors. We also know that mouthwashes contain a variable percentage of alcohol, so there is a reasonable concern about their role in carcinogenesis. To answer the PICOS (Population; Intervention; Comparison; Outcomes; Study) question: "Do patients (Population) who use alcohol-based mouthwashes (Intervention) compared to those who do not use them (Comparison) have higher acetaldehyde levels in saliva or higher risk of oral cancer development? (Outcomes)" Meta-analyses, systematic reviews, randomized and non-randomized clinical trials, case-control studies, and prospective and retrospective cohort studies were included (Study). Two independent authors conducted literature screening through MEDLINE, Scopus and the Cochrane Library, and they also conducted article and data extraction to undertake quality analyses. The main outcome measures were salivary acetaldehyde levels or the risk of oral cancer development. The most relevant data was extracted and the risk of bias from the studies included was also evaluated. Out of 497 potentially eligible papers, 8 studies were included in the qualitative analysis which include a total of 43,499 subjects: two meta-analyses, a clinical trial, three case-control studies and two cohort studies. One study (n = 3,926) found a relationship between alcohol mouthwash and oral cancer, two studies (n = 25,033) found this relationship when a high frequency of mouthwash was present, three studies (n = 14,482) failed to find this relationship and 2 studies (n = 58) found a temporary increase of acetaldehyde levels in saliva after alcohol mouthwash. It cannot be guaranteed that the use of mouthwash represents an independent risk factor for the development of head and neck cancer. However, the risk does increase when it occurs in association with other carcinogenic risk factors.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the capacity of biofilm formation of Candida albicans on different materials used to manufacture abutments and prostheses. Biofilm formation was analyzed on cp grade II titanium, cobalt-chromium alloy and zirconia, silicone, acrylic resin (polymethylmethacrylate) and nano-hybrid composite. Some samples were partially covered with lithium disilicate glass ceramic to study specifically the junction areas. C. albicans was incubated in a biofilm reactor at 37 °C with agitation. The biofilm formation was evaluated at 24 and 48 hours. In addition, the morphology of the biofilm was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. C. albicans developed biofilms on the surface of all materials tested. Cobalt-chromium alloy showed the lowest density of adhered biofilm, followed by zirconia and titanium. Silicone and resin showed up to 20 times higher density of biofilm. A higher biofilm formation was observed when junctions of materials presented micropores or imperfections. The biofilm formed in the three materials used in the manufacture of abutments and prostheses showed no major differences, being far less dense than in the resins. Two clinical recommendations can be made: to avoid the presence of resins in the subgingival area of implant prostheses and to design prostheses placing cobalt-chromium alloy/ceramic or titanium/ceramic junctions as far as possible from implants.
- Human papilloma virus genotypes in dysplasia and epithelial hyperplasia of oral cavity using the luminex xmap technology. HPV-HR has been associated with epithelial dysplasia, however, little information exists on its frequency in epithelial hyperplasia lesions. The aim of this study is to compare HPV genotypes in dysplastic and hyperplastic lesions of oral cavity. Two hundred and fifty oral lesions: 131 dysplasia and 119 hyperplasia from two regions of Colombia were evaluated. One hundred seventy-four coming from urban area and 104 from a high risk population to oral cancer from a rural area. HPV was identified by qPCR and Twenty-four HPVs genotypes were evaluated by Luminex® technology. Logistic regressions were performed to establish the associations between HPV infections with oral dysplasia. Twenty-eight percent (70/250) of the samples were positives for any HPV and HPV-HRs were more frequently than low risk HPVs. HPV-16 was the most detected genotype (16%) followed by HPV-31, 53, 18 and 45. HPV, HPV-HRs and HPV-16 were only associated with dysplasia in urban area; OR 3.28 (CI 95% 1.49-7.17), OR 7.94 (CI 95% 2.97-21.2) and OR 5.90 (CI 95% 2.05-17). Individuals in rural area showed more HPV and HPV-HRs infection in hyperplasic lesions than urban population. The majority of HPV+ lesions had multi-type of HPV (52/70) and the urban individuals showed more genotypes than rural population. HPV-.HRs are frequently found in hyperplastic and dysplastic epithelial lesions. HPV-HRs and HPV-16 were associated with dysplasia in urban population. Rural high risk population and urban population differ in the frequency and variety of HPV genotypes.
