- Compresión del nervio supraescapular por ganglión: Caso clínico(2001) Barra Plá, Amariel; Sala Cuartero, Diego; Gomar Sancho, FranciscoWe describe a case of a young adult male with a supraescapular nerve compression syndrome by a ganglion cyst surgically treated. We make a literature review of similar cases and their surgical treatment.
- Regeneración meniscal tras extirpación completa del menisco medial y sustitución por una bandeleta de tendón rotuliano: Estudio experimental con conejos(2001) Lecumberri Sagüés, José Joaquín; Arenas Planelles, Antonio; Valentí Nin, Juan Ramón; Díaz de Rada Pardo, OlgaThe authors analyse the meniscal regeneration after complete menis-cectomy and posterior meniscal substitution by a patellar tendon plasty. The study is realized in15 rabbits that were sacrificed after 6 weeks (5 cases), 3 months (5 cases) and 6 months (5 cases). Macroscopic and histologic studies of the pieces obtained have demonstrated that in the adult rabbit meniscal regeneration is always produced after total meniscectomy of the medial meniscus and posterior substitution by patellar tendon plasty, but this meniscal regeneration is smaller than the resected primitive meniscus.
- Cirugía de revisión de la columna lumbar(2001) Navarrete Faubel, Francisco Enrique; Escribá Roca, Ismael; Pérez Millán, L. A.Objective: To analyse the causes of failure in lumbar surgery and the results with revision surgery. Patients: Between 1995-1998, 39 patients were seen in our Spine Unit for a revision of their lumbar spine surgery. Most common diagnosis of the revision were spinal stenosis and peridural fibrosis. The principal treatment employed was nerve decompression and instrumentation with vertebral fusion. Minimum follow up: 12 months. Results: We did an economic-functional evaluation with the modified scale of Prolo, and noticed an increase of 0.5 points at the economic side and of 1.5 points at the functional side; which meant that the patients could return to their usual work and do all the diary activities except sports. 72% of the patients were satisfied or very satisfied with the results. Conclusions: The success of the revision surgery is based on an accurate analysis of the failure of the first surgery. The worst result of the revision surgery was caused by treatment of peridural fibrosis, while the best results were found in reoccurrence of discal herniation.
- Afectación ósea severa en reticulohistiosis multicéntrica, una enfermedad infrecuente: A propósito de un caso(2001) Quintero Quesada, Julio; Esteo Pérez, I.; López Ortiz, Roberto; Méndez Pérez, Luis IgnacioMulticentric reticulohystiocytoses is a rare systemic disease which affects middle age patients, manifested by gradual development of nodules in the skin, mucosa, subcutaneous tissues and synovia, xantomas, and arthritis of the small joints of the hands, similar to reumathoid arthritis. Involvement of large joints as shoulders, hips and knee resulting in deforming and erosive arthritis. A case of a 55 year-old patient is presented, with severe destruction of shoulder and hips requiring bilateral total hip arthroplasty.
- Seroprevalencia de hepatitis virales en pacientes programados para artroplastia de sustitución de cadera y rodilla(2001) Bonsfills García, Nuria; Gómez Barrena, Enrique; Miñana Amada, C.; Gómez Beltrán, J.M.One hundred and two consecutive patients scheduled for hip or knee arthroplasty were studied from July 1998 to May 2000, to detect the prevalence of serologic markets of B (HBV) and C (HCV) hepatitis viruses, and its preoperative association with rink or predictive factors. Mean age was 70±6 years, and women predominated. Prevalence of HBV surface antigen was 1,96%, that of HBV anti-core antibody was 26,47%, and no positive markers were observed against HCV. None of variables evaluated as risk or predictive factors showed significant association with presence of serum markers, except previous liver disease. The studied group of patients, representative of the scheduled patients for total hip or knee arthroplasty in our area, does not suggest a higher risk of viral hepatitis transmission. However, a higher number of contacts with HBV than in younger populations have been observed in this group.
- Hallazgo inesperado de equinococosis ósea en el curso de una artoplastia de cadera: Dos casos(2001) Modrego Aranda, Francisco Javier; Seral García, Belén; Remartínez Rivares, José María; Seral Iñigo, FernandoHydatid disease is a rare endemic parasitic disease that seldom involves the skeleton. We report two patients, in whom a total hip replacement operation resulted in an unsuspected Echinococcus infestation.
