- Análisis de la legislación con perspectiva de género: aspectos jurídicos de la relación uso o abuso de drogas, violencia y género en delitos sexuales por sumisión y vulnerabilidad química(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2020) Tarancón Gómez, PilarThis article tackles the issues concerning what it means to examine legislation ? in this case, criminal law ? with gender perspective, and why this perspective is required in addressing certain criminal problems that mostly affect women. The particular study of sex crimes involving chemical submission and chemical vulnerability serves to illustrate both issues. To this end, we analyze the legislation?s current wording and also what the most recent proposals for the reform of sex offences state with regard to how these criminal cases, specifically, should be reformed. We discuss the problems that have been raised, considering the means of commission used to perpetrate them and the factors that contribute to them, linked to the use and/or abuse of psychoactive substances and to gender
- Sobre prácticas de ocio juvenil y consumos de drogas en áreas rurales con perspectiva de género(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2020) Pavón Benítez, LauraThe use of alcohol and other drugs in young people is a problem that brings considerable concerns for Public Health. His analysis within rural areas from a gender perspective has gone unnoticed by scientific literature in Spain. This article studies the articulation of rural youth leisure through the meanings attributed to these practices by their own protagonists around the uses and abuses of recreational substances, using qualitative methodology from in-depth interviews (N= 40) carried out to young people (22 women and 18 men) between 18 and 24 years residents in villages in northern Extremadura. The results describe the rural scenarios par excellence of recreational leisure of young people emphasizing their particularities and rural determinants. Differences and inequalities in drug use have been identified following an intersectional perspective and taking into account variables such as gender and age. The findings found are discussed and include future lines of research and recommendations for social intervention.
- Consumo de psicofármacos en Andalucía. Un análisis de la Encuesta Andaluza de Salud desde la perspectiva de género(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2020) Gil-García, Eugenia; Cáceres Matos, Rocío; Núñez Claudel, Belén; Gálvez Zambrano, Ana; Vázquez-Santiago, Soledad; Cabrera León, Andrés; Romo Avilés, NuriaIntroduction: In Spain, 16% of the population consumes psychotropic drugs, where anxiolytics, hypnotics and antidepressants are the most frequent. Its prevalence of consumption is double in women than in men for all age ranges. Several authors indicate that this difference may be due to gender stereotypes. Objective: To determine the prevalence of psychotropic consumption in Andalusia and to know the risk factors associated with the consumption of anxiolytics, hypnotics and antidepressants disaggregated by sex. Material and methods: Descriptive and multivariate analysis based on the 2016 Andalusian Health Survey carried out on people over 16 years of age who were not institutionalized with a sample size of 6,569 people (3,231 men and 3,338 women). Results: Women are 2.1 times more likely to consume anxiolytics and 2.7 and 3 times more likely to consume hypnotics and antidepressants, respectively. For both sexes the risk factors associated with consumption are: being over 65 years of age and suffering from chronic pain. For them, being single or widowed is a risk factor for consumption; in women, the probability of consumption increases when they are engaged in unpaid domestic work, have average levels of study or suffer chronic disabling pain. Conclusions: This study confirms the influence of gender on the differential consumption of psychotropic drugs between men and women. Our results indicate the importance of performing analyzes disaggregated by sex to know which factors show the different associations in men or women, and with that, to focus specifically on socio-health care.
- Imagen social de las personas con consumo problemático de drogas desde el enfoque de género y clase social(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2020) Cantos Vicent, RaquelThe representations of a social fact usually do not match with the proper features of the same. Nevertheless, the importance of the social representations, in the identification and understanding of the social phenomenon, are unquestionable. In the specific case of drug addiction, it is not enough to know objectively the phenomenon itself, but the necessity to unravel the combination of social representations that configure it. In this way the prejudice and stereotypes that surround the problem itself emerge, allowing looking into the psychosocial and cultural aspects of drugs, the problematic use and the reality of those who use drugs. It is essential to carry out this task from an integral view that takes in account theinequality factors that the western society goes through, in general, and in particular the Spanish society (such as social class, ethnicity, place of origin or sex/gender). This study identifies the social representation of those who have a problematic use ofdrugs considering the processes related with gender socialization and social class. This is supported by information obtained from press reports and workshops based onphotographic images. The results show, on one hand, that the popular consciousness of drug addicts coincides with a man with a heroin problematic use. On the other hand, this social representation varies substantially depending on gender and social class, being more stereotyped and negative in the case of women and underprivileged people.
- Género y políticas sobre drogas en España: avances y limitaciones(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2020) Fernández Rodríguez, María Aránzazu; Dema Moreno, Sandra; Fontanil Gómez, YolandaUntil the 21st century, not much attention has been paid to the need to incorporate the gender approach into drug policies in Spain. A decade later, the current National Strategy on Addictions 2017-24 continues to point out this issue as one of the major challenges to be achieved. The aim of this article is to analyze how this process has been developed. To this end, a content analysis of the main documents of this public policies has been carried out, in particular, we have examined the three existing national drugs strategies, as well as the four action plans that develop them and the evaluation reports of the strategies. The results of this study show a clear improvement in the incorporation of gender issues in these policies. However, despite the progress some aspects that can be improved are also identified. On the one hand, progress would be made if these public policies consider the gender perspective in the areas of drug abuse prevention and harm reduction. On the other hand, the use of strategies which are frequent in public equality policies, such as empowerment and intersectionality, is rare in drug policies, although their application could substantially increase its effectiveness.
