The objective of this study is to compare the constructive thinking, a measure of emotional intelligence, between a clinical sample of adult patients diagnosed with dual diagnosis and a non-clinical sample. Method: By means of a comparative design of investigation, a not clinical sample of 835 subjects was compared with a sample of 180 subjects diagnosed of dual diagnosis: 78 with clinical disorders or of the Axix I and 102 with disorders of the personality or of the Axis II, according to DSM-TR-IV. Results: The results indicate a constructive thinking greater than in the non-clinical sample, as well as a destructive thinking higher in the sample with dual diagnosis. There were no differences between clinical disorders and personality. Conclusions: The clinic sample presents a destructive pattern of coping or no adaptative compared with non-clinical population, which in the case of patients with personality disorders is increased by illusions and superstitions and esoteric thoughts that contribute to their coping deficit.

During adolescence risk behaviors for health are common, including drug use. A deficit in social skills is one of the risk factors identified by the theoretical models of initiation to consumption. The aim of this study is to provide empirical data on the relationship between social skills and the use of psychoactive substances in Spanish adolescents. It also aims to examine the differences in this risk factor in terms of age and sex. 1,688 high school Spanish students aged between 13 and 17 years reported their consumption habits and their social competence. The results indicated a clear relationship between social skills and substance use. Antisocial behavior is associated with alcohol and cannabis. Males scored more on aggressive/antisocial behavior, pride/arrogance and loneliness/social anxiety. The results confirm the importance of selectively preventing consumption of substances among adolescents with inappropriate social behavior.

(2014) Abella, Francesc; Vilarasau Durany, Assumpció; Cuadrado, Josep; Solsona, Francesc; Alves, Rui
Tobacco consumption continues to be an important cause of morbidity and mortality. The therapeutic process of giving up smoking consists of the physical detoxification of nicotine as well as maintaining abstinence from its consumption. Our study lies in this context, offering a strategy by means of SMS support and monitoring patients throughout their treatment. Material and method. This longitudinal study compares two groups of patients, one with support via SMS and a control group without this support. Patients randomly received support messages and positive reinforcement as well as questions about their status. The rest of the therapy is equal in both groups. Results. The abstinence rates obtained among the group with SMS support were better than those of the other group (57.1% as opposed to 42.9%). They themselves value the methodology successfully, recognizing that it saves time and travel. Conclusion. The use of ICT in the monitoring and support of the detoxification process of tobacco consumption appears to be effective and well accepted by patients.

The methodological steps were: channel and radio station selection; recording of radio and TV programmes directed to adolescents; selection and analysis of TV and radio spots. The variables in the quantitative analysis were: minutes of advertising, audience analysis in the young people; number of radio spots. The qualitative study referred to: brand and slogan, public to which it is directed, advertising protagonists, values and emotional content of the message. anuncio Results: There were identified 914 TV alcohol advertising. 100% of analyzed programs and sport events included alcohol advertise, with spots being the most usual strategy. 26% of spots were specifically directed to adolescents and all showed a positive image of alcohol. 50% of radio commercials sent values like freedom, diversion, social and sexual success. Conclusions: Adolescents are exposed to recurrent positive messages about alcohol, so information and prevention turn extremely important to reduce the naturalized image of alcohol drinking.
