- Outcome-based health education: Possible approaches and models of competence(2008) Martínez Clares, Pilar; Martínez Juárez, Mirian; Muñoz Cantero, Jesús MiguelThe great changes taking place in society today call into question traditional training, which is focused on the transmission of knowledge and training skills. Some experts suggest that the introduction of a competency-based approach to training has presented it with an avenue for modernization and cooperation with the needs of the organizational environment. The approach of Outcome Based Education is considered one of the most important changes in health education for the twenty-first century. This approach is predominant in higher education institutions around the world and is the method recommended by major governing bodies and evaluators of health education (or, in a narrower sense, medical education).
- Tutoring in Higher Education and the contribution of the ICT for its improvement(2008) García Valcárcel, AnaUniversity professors exchange opinions on tutorship in a virtual seminar developed at the University of Salamanca (March of 2007) in the context of the investigational project TICDUS. This study was subsidized by the Ministry of Education and Science and performed by GITE-USAL (Group of Investigationinnovation of Educational Technology of the Salamanca University). The contributions of the Information and Communication Technologies are analyzed to improve the didactic processes related to the methodological change proposed by the European Program of Higher Education. The tutorship is considered a basic strategy for the students’ guidance, individualization and pursuit of learning in any pedagogic model. Yet this is even more apparent when we attempt methodologies that give the students more autonomy, as with the credits of the ECTS and the ICTs. These are appreciated as important and valuable resources to achieve the proposed ends. The good practices conflict with the difficulties of time, space, number of students, recognition of educational activity, etc. These indicate that the professors are factors of the current situation and can stand in the way of a true change towards greater learning and an increase in didactic efficacy.
- The participation in multicultural societies. Elaboration and evaluation of a program of active participation(2008) Folgueiras Bertomeu, PilarThe article begins with the theoretical bases for developing a training programme to foment the exercise of an active participation. The designed program is applied in a group of women with different cultural backgrounds that live in the city of L'Hospitalet and it is evaluated following the methodological characteristics of an investigation evaluation of participatory character. From the collection and analysis of the information, we present the results obtained that turn around the investigation objectives: the validation of the program design, the investigation on the exercise of active participation, the formation of the work team and the creation of a meeting point for women.
- Study of dimensionality using classic factor analysis and full information factor analysis: analysis of primary (5th and 6th degrees) and compulsory secondary mathematics tests(2008) Joaristi, Luis; Lizasoain, LuisThe aim of this paper is to analyze the dimensional structure of a set of mathematical achievement tests used to assess the academic achievement in the Community of Madrid during 2005-06 and 2006-07 years and in three cohorts corresponding to the following academic degrees: 5th-6th of primary education, 1st-2nd and 3-4th of compulsory secondary education (ESO). The results coming from classical factor analysis and full information factor analysis are compared. Therefore a longitudinal study is performed in order to test whether such structure remains constant along time. The results confirm that most of the tests are mostly unidimensional structures. Meanwhile, it was proven that as the complexity of the contents increase, the complexity of the dimensional structure tests increase as well.
