Although traditionally the fundamental objective of forensic pathology is the study of violent deaths or those suspected of being a crime, it has progressively acquired extraordinary relevance from a socio-sanitary point of view, sometimes irreplaceable, becoming the first link within a chain of multidisciplinary analysis in the study of sudden death syndrome when detecting the sentinel case. A systematic postmortem investigation adjusted to international standards makes it possible to contribute to the knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms of death and its fundamental cause. This happens, among other events, in deaths of infectious origin, where the diagnosis of the disease and the microorganism causing the death entails important repercussions for socio-family preventive and epidemiological medicine. We present the methodology used in the case of death suspected of infection by SARSCoV-2 (COVID-19), which underwent a postmortem medical-legal investigation in the face of signs of violence in the body.

"The maxim ""Primum non nocere"" is inherent to the doctor, but the practice of medicine has risks even in the best situations. Medical errors are an inseparable part of the practice of Medicine. At the present time, we can affirm that there is no gold standard that allows us to detect all adverse events or errors in Medicine; notwithstanding this, we shall, as far as possible, guide its prevention and medical-legal approach, from a strictly medical perspective, in accordance with well-established norms or standards.."
