Discapacidad, adicciones y supresión del término prodigalidad
(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2024) Carrión Olmos, Salvador
This paper has tried to analyse the impact of Law 8/2021, for the support of people with disabilities in the exercise of their legal capacity, with regard to the figure of prodigality. On the one hand, the reform substantially changes the interests that are the object of protection, which become only those of the person with a disability. On the other hand, there are no other legally relevant cases of prodigality than those that are the effect or consequence of a situation of disability; of course, including those behaviors that, although not derived from a disability in the strict sense, come from an addiction (to drugs, gambling, alcohol, etc.). For the legislator, also in such cases, we are dealing with a disability. Prodigality ceases to be the object of a unitary consideration, to be contemplated from the plurality of support measures.

Numerous definitions of recovery exist in the field of addictive disorders, particularly with regard to alcohol use disorder (AUD). However, attempts to establish the meaning of recovery in AUD have not achieved consensus. Throughout this century, proposals have recognized that recovery transcends mere abstinence or reduction in consumption, reflecting its complex and multidimensional nature. AUD recovery is characterized by improvements in various aspects of the individual?s life, being a dynamic, voluntary and self-directed process, in which the individual plays an active role in his or her path to wellness. Definitions converge on the importance of holistic well-being, including improvements in quality of life, biopsychosocial functioning, eudaimonic well- being and interpersonal relationships. However, debates persist around the inclusion of substance management in definitions of recovery from AUD. In addition, a new controversy has arisen with the recent inclusion of the referral of AUD diagnostic criteria within these definitions. This article proposes incorporating the ability to control behavior as an element in the definition of recovery to address these discrepancies. This approach recognizes individual variability and advocates for the application of personalized therapies within a person-centered care framework.

(Asociación Española de Estudio en Drogodependencias, AESED, 2024) Vaca Quintana, Diego; Bassante, Christian; Moreta Herrera, Rodrigo; Merlyn Sacoto, Marie-France; López Barrionuevo, Carlos Gustavo; Porras Povedano, Belén
This study aims to report levels, sex differences, and sex as a risk factor in alcohol and tobacco use among Ecuadorian college students. A descriptive and comparative method was employed. The sample consisted of 546 college students (69.1% women), aged between 17 and 41 years, from four universities located in the cities of Ambato and Quito. The results indicated low levels of alcohol and tobacco use, with significant sex differences showing higher consumption among men. Men were found to be 2.1 times more likely to consume alcohol and 3 times more likely to use tobacco compared to women. In conclusion, alcohol and tobacco use is a common behavior among the sample, with sex being a key factor in both the increase in consumption and the development of risky consumption patterns.

Introduction: Gambling disorder (GD) is an addictive disorder, which generates suffering in the people who suffer it and in their family and social environments. Both suicidal ideation and selfharm attempts are very common in the lives of people with GD. Due to the above, the aim of this study has been to find out if individuals with GD present greater suicidal ideation and/or self-harm attempt compared to general population (GP). The sample was made up of 318 adult people who live in Spain, with an average age of of 46,23 years (SD = 13.13), divided into two groups: GP (not diagnosed of GD) (51,9%) and clinical population (people who are diagnosed of GD, whether in current or past treatment in the different FEJAR associations) (48,1%). In this study, questionnaires related to both suicidal ideation and behavior were used. The results showed that clinical population has more self-harm ideation than GP (64% vs 32%), as well as more suicidal ideation (34% vs 8%). In conclusion, the results have allowed us to quantify and measure the presence of suicidal ideation and behavior in people diagnosed with GD, which will allow us to generate and elaborate a specific intervention protocol for clinical cases where this life-threatening situation appears, associated to GD
