Angiomatosis quística esquelética : a propósito de 1 caso
(1995) García de Quevedo Puerta, D.; Loring Martínez de Irujo, P.; Méndez Pérez, Luis Ignacio
Cystic angiomatosis of bone is a rare multicentric skeletal lesión caused by proliferation of blood vessels, lymphatics, or both and often accompanied by angiomatous lesions in other tissues. We report a case of a 4-year-old boy who suffered a pathologic fracture of the right humerus. A bone scan and an open biopsy lead to diagnosis. Visceral involvement was not found. The patient has been followed for 19 years and his lesions have showed progression.

Bases fisiopatológicas del tratamiento de la enfermedad de Scheüermann
(1995) Gomar Sancho, Francisco; Rodríguez, J.R.; Sangüesa, M. J.; Martín Rodríguez, A. P.; Laguía Garzarán, Manuel
As to the ethiopathogeny of Scheüermann's disease there is no consensus about the true cause of vertebral body wedging. It seems clear that the deformity of vertebral bodies is a consecuence of osteochondral weakness in a growth period in which mechanic factors are involved. This provides fundamentals of conservative treatment analvzing the results obtained with the Milwaukee and New York braces. The results demostrate a clear adventage of Milwaukee brace for upper kiphosis. On the other hand, low profile braces work well on curves with apex below T7, although less wedge angle correction is obtained.

Pseudotumor de pisiforme: a propósito de 1 caso
(1995) Fernández Gutiérrez, C.; Antuña Antuña, S.; Núñez Batalla, Daniel; Vega Fernández Regatillo, A. de la; Paz Jiménez, José
A case of pseudotumor of the pisiform vvith cronic pain in the hipothenar eminence and compression neuropathy of the ulnar nerve in Guyon's canal in a 33 year old man is reported. Pathologic diagnosis was consistent vvith hypertrophic fracture callus and focal degenerative changes in the articular surface of the pisiform. Repetitive minor trauma in his job as a miner, while using pneumatic hammer is presumed to be the main etiologic factor. Simple excision of the pisiform was performed vvith excelent functional result at 6 months. The authors believe that early inmobilization when the symptoms started, vvould have been the ideal treatment

Autopistas de la información. Aplicación en cirugía ortopédica
    (1995) Ruiz Crespo, E. J.; Martínez López, J.F.
Information highway describes the telecomunication services will be working in the next 10-15 years. The embryo of this highway is Internet. Internet offers two kinds of services: a) communication between users around the worid, and b) access to information services. In the first group of this services we can find electronic mail and news group. In the second group we can find services such as telnet, file transfer, Gopher and World Wide Web. We describe each of this kind of services and their applications in orthopaedic surgery.

Fracturas de estrés en la infancia
    (1995) Navascués del Rio, J. A.; López Valverde, S.; González López, J. L.; Soleto Martín, F.J.; Cervera Bravo, P.; Rodríguez Durántez, J.A.; García Trevijano, J. L.
We present 13 cases of stress fractures in children, collected in our center during the last 5 years. The age of patients ranged from 4 to 15 years old. In agreement with literature, we found a greater incidence on males (9 of 13 cases), and a predominant location on the proximal shaft of the tibia (7 cases). One of the most interesting aspects of this type of fractures is their clinical and radiological similarity with infections and tumors. Therefore, it is essential to achieve a right diagnosis based on standard radiographs, tomography, radionuclide bone scan, CT-scan and, most recently, MRI.

Complicaciones tras el enclavado de Ender en las fracturas trocantéreas
(1995) Cebrián, R.; Sebastiá Forcada, Emilio; Sanz Reig, J.; Pérez Aznar, A. T.
The rate and type of complications following Ender nailing in a series of 100 consecutive patients with trochanteric hip fractures were analysed. There were 75 women and 25 men with a mean age of 81 years. According to Jensen classification, 27% were stable fractures and 73% unstable. There were registered 32% of intraoperative complications and technical errors, 39% of distal migration of nails, 3% of proximal migrations with perforations of the femoral head and 11% of healing malpositions in varus. The rale of reoperations was 21%.

Estudio epidemiológico de las fracturas trocantéreas en pacientes mayores de 65 años: área de Salud III, Zaragoza
(1995) Paniagua Royo, L.; Albareda Albareda, Jorge Cruz; Laclériga Giménez, A.F.; Palanca Martín, Daniel; García Pequerul, José Manuel; Segura Mata, J.; Seral Iñigo, Fernando
We have performed an epidemiologic study on the incidence of trocanteric fractures in patients older than 65 years treated at the traumatology unit of the University Clinic Hospital of Zaragoza from 1980 to 1993, insisting on last four years. We have valued age, sex, injurycausing, clasification. length of hospital stay, delay in treatment, in-hospital mortality and morhility. We have observed that injury causing hip fractures were minimal. Gradual inversion in the neck/trochanteric ratio was also detected. In general, we confirmed the high incidence in the population with risk of hip fracture, considering this type of fracture as the epidemy of future.

Utilización de fijadores externos como tratamiento de urgencias en las fracturas pélvicas del politraumatizado
(1995) Fernández Gallart, J.; Sangüesa, M. J.; Blasco Mollá, María Carmen; Gomar Sancho, Francisco
The importance of pelvis instability for life prognosis in multiple trauma patients implies a rapid treatment action in these lesions. We report 10 patients with multiple trauma and unstable pelvis fractures treated as emergency by external fixation. The good results obtained confirm the utility of this method as both the initial and definitive treatment of pelvis fractures in cases of emergency.

Aspectos epidemiológicos del traumatismo múltiple en un hospital de referencia: experiencia de 1 año
(1995) Sala Cuartero, Diego; Maruenda, J. I.; Barrios, C.; Gomar Sancho, Francisco
The cases of multiple trauma admitted in the University Clinic Hospital of Valencia during 1992 were epidemiologically assessed. A group of 180 patients were finally admitted in the Trauma Unit from a total of 285 hospital admittances. There were 133 men and 47 women, with mean age of 33 years. Age, sex, etiology, period of hospital discharge, type of injury, associated lesions and treatment were recorded from clinical charts. The age group between 11 and 40 years was the most frequently affected. Traffic accident was the most important cause of injury. The mean Injury Severity Score (ISS) for the hole series was 12,4 (3-48). Isolated musculoskeletal injury was found in 75% of the cases. Associated lesions were head trauma (76 cases), thoracic trauma (seven cases) and abdominal trauma (six cases). More than two combinations were found in 16 cases. A total of 345 fractures were recorded (1.9 fractures per patient). The highest frequency was observed in the lower extremity (48%). The tibia was the most affected bone. Conservative treatment was applied in 166 cases, while 183 cases were treated surgically (1.1 surgeries per patient). The mean hospital discharge was 14 days. Patients with ISS > 9 showed a significant higher hospital stay as compared to those with ISS < 9.
