The crisis that has been hitting Europe since 2008 is also a crisis of the intelligibility of the social sphere, hence entailing the formation of new social representations. This article focuses on a social representation that appeared in the early 2000s: the «precarious intellectuals». We are going to analyze this problematic social representation, by tracing its genesis and by positionning it in the field of rival social representations to which it belongs. Resorting to an investigation conducted between 2008 and 2011, we are also going to characterize some the social experiences targeted by this social representation.
