Abstract
This paper studies the impact of certain psychological, social and family phenomena on the adjustment of parents and children. On the one hand, the influence of parental socialisation has been analysed in several samples composed of subjects of all ages, with the aim of examining the impact on some criteria of psychological and social adjustment, intergenerational relationships, as well as on specific criteria of grandparenthood. This analysis has delved into the socialisation outcomes associated with each parental style throughout the life cycle, based on Maccoby and Martin's two-dimensional model of parental socialisation. In addition, it has allowed the detection of certain family dynamics involved in intergenerational relationships. Finally, it has examined the imprint of socialisation over time, discovering an impact that lasts up to three generations later. On the other hand, this work has verified the influence of factors such as parental stress on the psychological maladjustment of parents, following previous lines of research proposing that this dimension can produce psychological disorders in parents, hindering the use of appropriate parental competences and the parent-child relationship, which has direct and indirect repercussions on the socialisation of children.
