Since the end of the 20th century, the Western world has faced the challenge of care. Sociodemographic transformations have modified the dynamics of the welfare system. The demand for care grows, but the supply decreases, especially on the part of the traditional providers: the women of the family. How does Spain with its family welfare state respond to this challenge? What is the dimension of the problem? Is it possible to meet this demand “in crescendo”? The present study aims to shed light on the care deficit debate, although many issues remain to be addressed.
