Magnetically bistable single-molecule magnets could store binary information at the molecular level but only below a certain blocking temperature. Existing synthetic strategies employ ligands that induce strong crystal fields around the magnetic metal ions in order to create a large energetic barrier and block the magnetic states. In this work, we show that such high-temperature magnetic blocking can also be realized in an air-stable dysprosium endohedral azafullerene by insulation from the thermal vibrational bath and despite a very weak crystal field.
