Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to analyze the factors that determine the disclosure and performance in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of listed companies in Latin America, providing empirical evidence on organizational, financial and government characteristics by which they are seen influenced. It starts from a bibliographic analysis about factors that explain the voluntary disclosure of sustainability information, later an empirical study is carried out through a logistic regression analysis from which the corporate factors that influence the level of adherence of The information contained in the sustainability reports to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is finally complemented by an empirical analysis that focuses attention on the board of directors, a governing body that plays a very important role in the CSR strategy and activities of the organizations. The research carried out allows us to observe the existence of gaps in the adoption of CSR, especially in Latin American organizations, which can be explained by economic, cultural and organizational differences. The logistic regression applied allows us to affirm that the three variables analyzed: size, sector and insurance, significantly influence the level of adherence to the GRI disclosure standard. Finally, it is found that, within the group of companies analyzed, the characteristics of the board of directors incorporated into the model show a strong correlation with their environmental performance, specifically it was identified that the size, the activity of the board, measured by the number of meetings of the same, the female presence, the existence of audit and governance subcommittees, have a positive influence to obtain a better result in the CSR performance indicator.
