Estudio del trauma y su vínculo con los sueños de pacientes en tratamiento psicológico. Una visión transgeneracional
The concept of trauma and its way of dealing it from an appropiate clinical conceptualization, occupies at the present time a central position in the interdisciplinary scientific dialogue, showing Psychology a remarkable interest in this disorder. A clinical difficulty in the diagnosis of trauma exists, due to its disconnection with the symptoms and the induction of an emotional block and dysfunctions in the main psychological processes such as perception, thinking, feelings, imagination, memory and dream function of clinical patients. Generally, the person is affected by various traumas of different stages of his life, besides being able to be influenced by events suffered by relatives of previous generations. The purpose of this research was to deepen into the clinical knowledge of the disorders produced by the presence of traumatic events in the patients' lives, in order to achieve an amelioration in their diagnosis and treatment. The study analyzed the relational patterns of personal and transgenerational trauma, its comorbidity and the sleep content of 51 clinical participants, with the aim of achieving an improvement in diagnosis and psychological treatment. We highlighted the importance of new sources of information that could shed light and alleviate the limitations, so we investigated the patterns of relationship between the content of dreams (considering emotion, color and traumatizing element), with trauma risk factors and their comorbidity. The results of the investigation showed something that had already been detected in the clinical and phenomenological experience, contributing scientific evidence to two facts that have a great impact on psychological health. The first was the precocity: at an early age, the trauma causes irreparable damages to development and vulnerability to being victim of a greater number of overwhelming events, so that special attention should be paid to link the trauma. The second was the importance of the events caused by another human, especially if it is part of a nearby environment, so that intentional acts of violence, both interpersonal and communit, will be the main trauma risk factors. The greatest sufferings stem from the relationship with others. The communal violence of war affects the following generations, in the form of interpersonal violence: child abuse, bullying, partner abuse and workplace harassment. Another significant conclusion was that traumatic events produce a comorbidity and clinical symptomatology that transcends mental health and the dreams of descendants. The findings found showed, in the dream content, a compensatory function through the presence of positive emotions, light and color in patients' dreams, which can be used in clinical practice to improve psychological processes damaged because of the trauma. The outcomes of this research are very useful in clinical practice. The therapeutic intervention should take into account this connection of overwhelming events and also the main tools that can clarify the difficulty of treating trauma: one is the transgenerationality and the other the dream content and the use of the compensatory function of dreams in the psychological treatment. www.marianroig.com
