El nacionalisme polític valencià (1978-1997). Cultura política, participació social i pràctiques col·lectiuves

The present doctoral thesis "Valencian political nationalism (1978-1997): Political culture, social participation and collective practices" attempts to underline the different Valencian nationalist formations that have participated in the democratic processes from the Spanish Transition to the end of the century. All this, focusing not only on the discussion about the identity of Valencians, but also on the reasons behind the creation of different political formations that would Zinally lead to the Unitat del Poble Valencià, especially, but not solely. Likewise, understanding the internal discussions of the formations as well as their social presence and within different collective spheres would help to comprehend the changes with respect to the national positioning of both the UPV and the previous and parallel formations. A thorough analysis of political Valencianism over the last quarter of a century requires not only internal processes and debates in order to understand the decisions taken, but also an analysis of the different electoral contests at municipal, autonomous, state and, to a lesser extent, European level, without forgetting the social roots of Valencian nationalism. Only in this way will it be possible to trace a relationship between municipalist settlement and the groups with most weight within the formations, in addition to being able to draw a map of Valencian political nationalism by region throughout the established chronology. The national question was always at the core of the organisational discussion of the Valencianist formations. This was mixed with the positions on the left-right axis to form an interesting internal debate that ran alongside the different reformulations of Fusterianism that took place in the seventies and, above all, in the eighties and nineties. Detaching the national question from the political axis would be a mistake. For that reason, the objective of this thesis is also to study the different drifts within the political spectrum of the Valencianist formations, always bearing in mind the identity question and the different realities that occurred simultaneously in the rest of the Spanish state, both at electoral and ideological level, which often served as a mirror for the political Valencianism.
