Algunos ejemplos(2017) Seoane Rodríguez, Manuel AndrésThe work by Lorenzo de Zamora Monarchia Mystica offers important difficulties about the right identification of the sources on which the author bases the framework of his argumentation. The main problems consist in the name of the cited authors but also in the location of works or passages inside the cited works. The aim of this paper is to explain some examples taken from the text which we are currently studying and to propose some guidelines for a next research.
- Amplitudo en la retórica de Jorge de Trebisonda(2017) Sánchez Manzano, María AsunciónThis paper describes the range of the different terms which are attached to amplitudo in the humanist reception. After having explored the relationship among some Greek rhetorical concepts and their Latin noun, starting from Trebizond?s work, it deals with the qualities and levels of style. Employing Hermogenes? ideae, the article further characterizes the specific sense of amplitudo from the Renaissance approaches of Pietro Vettori?s comment on Demetrios of Phaleron?s treatise, and Pedro Juan Núñez?s Tabulae.
- La lectura de la obra platónica por parte de san Juan de Avila(2017) Ruiz Pérez, ÁngelThe fact that saint John of Avila used to quote Plato, whom he most probably read in the Latin version of Marsilio Ficino, is used in this paper as evidence for his real interest in the Classics, albeit limited in the case of Plato to some topics of ethics and politics, because the core of Platonic philosophy (and Greek philosophy in general) gets subjected to Christian revelation. Nonetheless, he appreciates some of the Platonic arguments and even admires the depth of some of Plato?s intuitions.
Andromache and Iphigenia in Aulis became extremely relevant in west drama arts, because of the success of Racine?s versions in the 17th century. Therefore, I shall study how the Euripides? myth, through Racine, arrives into the Spanish literature and writers. To achieve that, I will outline the Spanish translations, version and recreations from the 18th century. I will focus on Margarita Hickey?s translation (1759), Clavijo y Fajardo?s lost Andromache (after 1770) ?a translation from Racine?s one?, Pedro de Silva?s adaptation Al amor de madre no hay afecto que le iguale (circa 1764), that became a «heroic comedy» and Manuel Lassala?s «lyrical scene» Andromaca (1788).
XVI?)de Alvaro de Castro(2017) Martínez Prieto, RocíoThe new humanist movement that entered during the 16th century in Spain substantially changed the current medical thou- ghts. However, the medieval tradition was still configuring the contents and form of several writings of the period. Considering this fact, this paper studies the direct references to Galen made by the Spanish physician Álvaro de Castro in his Antidotarium , probably written in the early 16th century, in order to determine whether he developed a humanist attitude or he was still influen - ced by the medieval tradition, with the so called ?Arabized Galen? as fundamental source.
- El viaje y entrada del gobernador Mariano Ricafort en Manila (1825)(2017) Hidalgo Nuchera, PatricioIn 1825 the new governor of the Philippines, Mariano Ricafort, made his entrance in the city of Manila. It was a political celebration, like all the others in the diminishing Spanish empire, seeking to assure the subjects? loyalty to the monarchy. Except in small details, the ceremony carried out by the new Royal representative was practically identical to those carried out by his predecessors.
- Vives en la encrucijada: de nuevo viejas controversias entre humanistas y escolásticos a propósito de unos comentarios al De civitate Dei de san Agustín(2017) Estellés i González, José María; Pérez i Durà, JordiThe De Veteribus Interpretibus , one of the introductory texts included in the different editions of the Commentaries of JLVives to De Civitate Dei de S. Agustín, presents the Valencian humanist as an unconditional defender of the new cultural proposals that Humanism advocates against the position of the scholastics. Both here and in In Pseudodialecticos Vives defends a genuine reading of the texts to analyze, underlining the essential role of the com- petition that the commentator should have in the knowledge of the Latin Language. We include an analysis of the De veteribus and analyze some texts that base the opinions of the Valencian humanists.
