Estudio sobre la representación de la imagen de Arabia Saudita y el wahabismo en los informativos de Televisión Española en el periodo 1956 a 2015. La investigación aborda la forma en que el medio audiovisual público generalista más veterano de España construye los discursos referidos a este país y cuales son los factores políticos, económicos y religiosos que lo condicionan. Basándose en análisis cuantitativos y cualitativos se expone el tratamiento diferencial mediático que tiene Arabia Saudita y cómo se construye en determinados periodos legitimando los intereses políticos y económicos de España y por extensión de Occidente. El trabajo estadístico realizado en el archivo de TVE muestra las relaciones entre las monarquías saudí y española como eje temático principal de las noticias referidas al país árabe y la importancia de la información institucional. El tono del discurso referido a Arabia Saudita es siempre positivo hasta que se produce la guerra del Golfo, en 1991, momento en que aparece el país implicado en el conflicto. Es a partir de los atentados del 11 de septiembre cuando el tema predominante de retrato y referencia de Arabia Saudita es el terrorismo. La tesis hace asimismo un recorrido por la historia de las relaciones diplomáticas Arabia Saudita-España, el peso de Arabia Saudita en la geoestrategia mundial y asimismo dedica un capítulo a analizar los orígenes y las bases de pensamiento del wahabismo, la corriente de interpretación religiosa que legitima la monarquía y la estructura social y cultural de reino árabe.

This research is about the representation of Saudi Arabia and the wahabism in the news program of Spanish Television in the period 1956 2015. The study approaches the way in which the most veteran audio-visual media in Spain builds the speeches referred to this country and how are the political, economic and religious factors that determine it. It is based on quantitative and qualitative analyses that proves the differential media treatment that Saudi Arabia has and how it is narrated in certain periods legitimizing the political and economic interests of Spain and for extension of West. The statistical work realized in TVE's archive shows the relations between the monarchies Saudi and Spanish as thematic principal axis(axle) of the above-mentioned news.The tone of the speech referred to Saudi Arabia is always positive until the war of the Gulf , in 1991, moment in which the country involved in the conflict appears. After the attempts of September 11, the predominant topic of portrait and reference of Saudi Arabia is the terrorism. The thesis also analyzes the history of the diplomatic relations Saudi Arabia -Spain , the weight of Saudi Arabia in the international strategy and it dedicates a chapter to analyzing the origins and the bases of the wahabisme, the religious interpretation that legitimizes the monarchy and the social and cultural structure of Arabic kingdom
