The 'Crònica universal de 1427', written in the second half of the 15th century, is set in a historical context in which the writing of this type of historiographical work was nothing new. In fact, this 'Crònica' brings to an end the period of greatest production of universal chronicles in Catalan, which had their period of splendour throughout the 14th and 15th centuries. The work can be divided into three very different parts: the first, the longest, narrates the biblical history from Genesis to the Passion of Jesus Christ. The second is based on the two main medieval authorities, imperial and papal, to construct the historical account from the death of Christ to the beginning of the reign of Peter the Great. From this point onwards, the chronicle loses its universal character and focuses on the royal and military affairs of the Crown of Aragon until the reign of Alfonso the Magnanimous, paying special attention to the historical - and also anecdotal - events of the kingdom of Valencia. The compiler's aim is to show the role of the monarchs of the Crown of Aragon, and especially of the Kingdom of Valencia, as an integral part of the uninterrupted stream of that universal history.
