Abstract
During the guerra dels Segadors (1640-52/59), ephemeral poems filled the streets of Barcelona as well as other strategic cities across the Principality of Catalonia, proclaiming slogans in favour of the French or the Hispanic monarchy. This poetry took the form of news pamphlets, broadsheets and manuscripts, and its popularity shows the usefulness of the genre for political propaganda as well as its versatility, since it could be modified depending on the results of the military conflict. The surviving pasquinades, which were posted on walls and were often accompanied by related images, appear to be only a small sample of what was a much more extensive phenomenon.
