	El objetivo de este trabajo es presentar la fenomenología matemática y didáctica de la fracción mediante y del árbol de fracciones (árbol de Stern-Brocot), mostrando su carácter elemental, su historia y su interés y utilidad potencial para la Enseñanza Secundaria. Se muestra, asímismo, cómo el árbol de fracciones proporciona una construcción didáctica de los números racionales, abriendo nuevas perspectivas para la enseñanza de los mismos en el aula.The aim of this study is to uncover the mathematical and didactical phenomenology of the mediant and the tree of fractions (Stern-Brocot tree), showing their elementary and fundamental character, their historical roots and their interest and potential usefulness for Secondary Education. It is also shown that the tree of fractions provides a didactical construction of the rational numbers, opening new perspectives for the teaching of this concept in the classroom.
