Fausto Maria Martini was born on April 14, 1886 in Rome, the city where he died in 1930. His work as a poet, critic and playwright began with the publication of the poetic collection Le piccole morte (1903), a book that meant his incorporation to the goup of the Italian crepuscularism. Within the parameters of the movement he published two other collections of poems Panem nostrum (1907) and Poesie provinciali (1910). After the death of his friend Sergio Corazzini in 1907, he made a trip to America, an experience that would be the bse on which Si sbarca a New York (1930).
