| In the middle of the 19th century the German romanists found the Romance philology. They established that Catalan is the name of a language of the Catalan-speaking areas, which is different from Occitan and which has nothing to do with Limousin, something known since the early 16th century. This paper analyzes the opinion of Italian romanists about the name, beginning and identity of the Catalan language between 1808 and 1906. | |||
