ASIMETRÍA VERTICAL DEL CÓNDILO Y RAMA MANDIBULAR MEDIDAS EN EL CONE BEAM COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CBCT) INTRODUCCIÓN: La asimetría mandibular es de gran interés desde el punto de vista odontológico, una asimetría en la mandíbula es una alteración en el desarrollo craneofacial, lo que contribuye a una desventaja en el aparato estomatognático, provocando maloclusiones, alteraciones estéticas, problemas funcionales y psicosociales, por lo que es importante su diagnóstico; se han empleado diversos medios de diagnóstico para la evaluación de la asimetría mandibular como fotografías, radiografías convencionales y actualmente tomografía computarizada de haz cónico, así mismo existe una variedad de cefalometrías que se emplean para determinar la asimetría de la mandíbula, la más comúnmente utilizada es la descrita por Habets, la cual es empleada para realizar mediciones verticales de la mandíbula. OBJETIVO: Cuantificar la longitud del cóndilo, rama mandibular y volumen condilar, así como determinar la relación de la asimetría vertical del cóndilo, rama mandibular y volumen condilar con el patrón esquelético y facial de los pacientes a través de mediciones en imágenes CBCT. MÉTODO: El diseño de estudio fue de tipo observacional, descriptivo, comparativo y transversal. La muestra final obtenida fue de 160 CBCT de pacientes que asistieron a la clínica de Ortodoncia de la Universidad de Valencia. Los pacientes se clasificaron de acuerdo al patrón esquelético y facial, para comparar la longitud del cóndilo, rama mandibular y volumen condilar entre grupos, así como asimetría que presentaron. RESULTADOS: Los hombres mostraron una mayor longitud de la rama en comparación de las mujeres, la prevalencia de asimetría vertical y el volumen condilar también fue mayor en los hombres; se observó que las estructuras del lado derecho son ligeramente mayores que las del lado izquierdo tanto en longitud como en volumen; en cuanto la clase esquelética la longitud, el volumen y la prevalencia de asimetría relevante es mayor en pacientes clase III esquelética y en pacientes con patrón facial dólicofacial es menor; sin ser los resultados anteriormente mencionados estadísticamente significativos. Los grupos de acuerdo al patrón esquelético y facial presentaron una prevalencia de asimetría relevante cercana al 70%. CONCLUSIONES: Se ha cuantificado la longitud del cóndilo y de la rama mandibular, así como el volumen del mismo en la Tomografía Computarizada de Haz Cónico (TCHC) y se determinó que no existen asimetrías en la longitud del cóndilo, rama mandibular y total mandibular entre ambos lados de la mandíbula, sexo, clase esquelética y patrón facial mediante el método de Habets. Se ha determinado el índice de asimetría vertical siendo 7,69% para el cóndilo, 2,45% para la rama y 2,30% para asimetría total mandibular con el método de Habets, y 5,27% para el cóndilo, 8,43% para el cuello condilar y 3,86% para la rama con el método de Habets modificado, los índices no mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas de acuerdo al sexo, clase esquelética y patrón facial. Se determinó la concordancia entre el método de Habets y el método de Habets modificado. Se ha determinado que no existen asimetrías en el volumen del cóndilo entre ambos lados de la mandíbula, sexo, clase esquelética y patrón facial.

VERTICAL ASYMMETRY OF THE CONDYLE AND MANDIBULAR RAMUS MEASURES IN THE CONE BEAM COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CBCT) INTRODUCTION: The mandibular asymmetry is of great interest from the dental point of view, an asymmetry in the jaw is an alteration in craniofacial development, which contributes to a disadvantage in the stomatognathic system, causing malocclusions, aesthetic alterations, functional and psychosocial problems, so its diagnosis is important; Different methods of diagnosis have been used for the assessment of mandibular asymmetry such as photographs, conventional radiographs and currently cone beam computed tomography, as well as a variety of cephalometries that are used to determine the asymmetry of the jaw, the most commonly used is the one described by Habets, which is used to perform vertical measurements of the jaw. OBJECTIVE: To quantify the length of the condyle, mandibular ramus and condylar volume, as well as to determine the relationship of the vertical asymmetry of the condyle, mandibular ramus and condylar volume with the skeletal, facial pattern and sex of the patients through measurements in CBCT images. METHOD: The study design was observational, descriptive, comparative and transversal. The final sample obtained was 160 CBCT of patients who attended the Orthodontics clinic of the University of Valencia. The patients were classified according to the skeletal and facial pattern, to compare the length of the condyle, mandibular ramus, total mandibular lenght and condylar volume between groups, as well as the asymmetry they presented. RESULTS: Men showed a greater length of the ramus compared to women, the prevalence of vertical asymmetry and condylar volume was also higher in men; it was observed that the structures on the right side are slightly larger than those on the left side in both length and volume; As for the skeletal class, the length, volume and prevalence of relevant (>3%) asymmetry is greater in skeletal class III patients and in patients with brachyfacial pattern is lower; without statistically significant results. The groups according to the skeletal and facial pattern presented a prevalence of relevant asymmetry close to 70%. CONCLUSIONS: The length of the condyle and the mandibular ramus has been quantified, as well as the volume in the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and it was determined that there are no asymmetries in the length of the condyle and mandibular ramus between both sides of the jaw, sex, skeletal patterm and facial pattern by the method of Habets. The index of vertical asymmetry has been determined in 7.69% for the condyle, 2.45% for the mandibular ramus and 2.30% for total mandibular asymmetry with the Habets method, and 5.27% for the condyle, 8, 43% for the condylar neck and 3.86% for the mandibular ramus with the modified Habets method, the indices did not show statistically significant differences according to sex, skeletal class and facial pattern. The concordance between the Habets method and the modified Habets method was determined. It has been determined that there are no asymmetries in the volume of the condyle between both sides of the jaw, sex, skeletal class and facial pattern.
