In the middle of the XIXth century, a Roman head was found in Sagunto. It is mentioned by E.Hübner in 1862 and was on show at the Archaeological Exhibition held in Valencia in 1876. Later on it was first published by A. Chabret in his book on Sagunto (1888) and then studied in 1912 by E. Albertini, who considered that its headdress was modern. From this moment it wasn¿t mentioned anymore in the bibliography, and its trace was lost. Very recently it has been found again in a private collection. It is sculpted in white marble and shows a mature woman, with a thin face and a serious expression, its head covered with a veil and the hairstyle is of the nodus type, with plaits on both sides. Its study has determined that it is a private portrait, possibly funerary, and it can be dated in the reign of the emperor Augustus.
